Juliet M. Getty, Ph.D. is a specialist in equine nutrition whose philosophy is founded on feeding a horse in sync with his natural needs and instincts. Dr. Getty is the author of the comprehensive resource, Feed Your Horse Like A Horse, and her articles and interviews often appear in national and international publications.
 
Dr. Getty has been working with horse owners for more than 20 years, offers private consultations, and designs customized feeding plans to promote horses’ health, reverse illness, and optimize performance. She has many years of formal study from highly reputable, accredited universities and has used her education in professional settings while continuing to follow research on a daily basis. Educated at the University of Florida and the University of Georgia, she performed research with equines, as well as with ruminants, and dogs.  Her studies include over 120 credits in areas such as surgery, pathology, endocrinology, nephrology, gastroenterology, anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, blood chemistry, and parasitology, to name a few where she obtained a perfect 4.0 GPA from both programs. She also developed a unique protein-isolating chemical procedure. 
 
A former university professor and recipient of several teaching awards, Dr. Getty is a popular speaker and consultant with individual horse owners and equine farms. Retired from the University of North Texas, she taught comparative nutrition for 20 years to more than 1200 students each year. In this course, the digestive systems of different animals, including humans, were emphasized to allow for a complete understanding of how nutrients are digested, absorbed, and metabolized. At the same time, she managed a private consulting company working with individual horse owners and horse farms to help horses overcome a variety of illnesses, improve performance, and reach optimal health. 
 
Based in beautiful rural Bayfield, Colorado, Dr. Getty runs a consulting company, Getty Equine Nutrition, LLC through which she helps horse owners locally, nationally, and internationally. The well-being of the horse remains Dr. Getty’s driving motivation, and she believes every horse owner should have access to scientific information in order to give every horse a lifetime of vibrant health.
 
Her consulting work includes a variety of services to suit her clients’ needs and interests. The “Ask the Nutritionist” forum offers an easy venue for obtaining information. For more complex cases, Dr. Getty meets with horse owners via phone, or in person, to address a vast array of nutritional concerns, offer unbiased recommendations, and formulate customized feeding plans that meet the individual hores's needs. Dr. Getty enjoys speaking to groups, large and small.
